GYA were commissioned to design a whole house refurbishment and extension to this C20th house on the south western edge of Ashburton. The brief required a wholesale re-planning of the existing interiors with a new living space extension and significant improvements to thermal performance and energy efficiency of the existing fabric.
The completed project represents a complete re-planning of the internal spaces, new roof structure over and the insertion of a dynamic new first floor extension and cantilevered terrace which take full advantage of the stunning panoramic views across Dartmoor. The interior spaces are clean and simple using a soft natural palette complimented by the client’s beautiful furniture and fittings.
Externally the existing house has been re-finished with an insulated render system. New windows have been inserted within existing openings and new highly insulated roofs constructed over. The air tightness of the house is now excellent while PVs and a large air source heat pump provide clean, renewable energy sources. This combination of fabric upgrades and renewable energy generation resulted in our client’s monthly energy bill coming down to just £6 during July!
