Jackie Gillespie BA(Hons) DipArch RIBA

Jackie is a co-founder of Gillespie Yunnie Architects. She has a particular interest in finding contemporary solutions for constrained and historic environments and has worked with Urban Splash on the regeneration of Royal William Yard. Other projects include Cricklepit Mill, Coombe Dean, Edginswell Hall and interior design for a leading restaurant chain. She is a Panel Member on both the Torbay and Devon & Somerset Design Review Panels.

Jackie spends her spare time sailing and racing in Torbay with her husband and two children.

Phil Yunnie BSc(Hons) BArch RIBA

Phil is a co-founder of Gillespie Yunnie Architects and with Jackie takes responsibility for all projects from initial client meetings through to completion. He retains a very hands-on approach and enjoys all aspects of the design process with a particular expertise in the creative re-use and re-invention of existing buildings.

Phil lives locally with his wife and three children and enjoys the outdoor life, riding his bikes, surfing and snowboarding.

Ian Farnfield BA(Hons) BArch RIBA

Ian joined us in 2010 after gaining six years of experience in the UK and Australia including MacCormac Jamieson Prichard and the region's leading low energy architects. Ian has been project architect on a variety of schemes ranging from bespoke houses and schools to large residential conversions and has just become a Certified Designer/Passivhaus Consultant.

Ian lives with his wife in a crumbling listed house close to good ale and live music whilst being able to escape to the coast and moor.

Fran Wadia BA(Hons) DipArch MArch RIBA

Fran has been an architect with Gillespie Yunnie since returning to Devon from London in 2012. She has amassed a wealth of experience on our residential and refurbishment projects and has a keen interest in adaptive re-use and interior design.

Fran lives on Dartmoor with her partner, 2 cats and 6 chickens and enjoys exploring the moor, knitting woolly hats and baking cookies to fuel the office.

James Neal BA(Hons) DipArch

James has been with Gillespie Yunnie Architects since the beginning and has been involved with many of our key projects including Mills Bakery, Buckfast Abbey and Oldway. He has worked extensively on existing and historic buildings and has a great understanding of traditional building technologies and best conservation practice.

James lives near the sea with his family, guitars and homemade surfboards.

Nicola Donnery BSc(Hons) MArch

Architectural Assistant

Originally from the Wirral, Nicola relocated to the South West in 2013 after graduating from The University of Sheffield. Since joining the team, she has worked on a broad range of projects including works to listed buildings, restaurant interiors and multi-unit residential schemes.

Nicola lives in Ivybridge with her partner, his family and their menagerie of pets. She is a keen swimmer, attends yoga classes and (luckily for us) loves baking.

Emma Yunnie FACCA

Company Secretary

Emma has been with GYa since the beginning and was responsible for establishing our financial systems and procedures. She is a freelance accountant and takes care of all our accounting and administrative needs.

Emma is married to Phil and lives locally with their three children enjoying dog walks, ballet, surfing and yoga when family commitments allow.

Lotti Jullien BA(Hons)

Practice Manager

Lotti is a long standing member of staff and has been with us since 2006. She is responsible for the day-to-day smooth running of the practice in addition to overseeing our marketing efforts and trying to organise the annual staff BBQ.

Lotti interests include playing music on her extensive collection of instruments, growing vegetables and taking long walks in the stunning Devonshire countryside.

Catherine Busuttil BA(Hons) MArch

Architectural Assistant

Catherine joined us in early 2015 after graduating from The University of Edinburgh and gaining experience locally. She has worked on a wide range of projects and enjoys working as part of a team to see a project develop from initial concept to completion. She has worked on both new build and historic projects.

Catherine lives with her partner in a sleepy Devon village. She loves her ballet classes, analogue photography, cheesy ciders and her weird cacti collection.

Sue Potter BA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA

Prior to joining GYa, Sue worked in London for several commercial practices before relocating to Devon. She has worked on a range of projects including hotel refurbishment and restaurant design, retail leisure, residential redevelopment and master planning.

Sue originally studied graphic design and illustration and as a consequence is a very keen architectural illustrator. Living on the southern edge of Dartmoor she uses the landscape as inspiration for her painting and printmaking.

Pablo Burriel Ferrando MArch MBA

Pablo is the most recent addition to the office. He graduated as an architect in 2008 and trained in Spain, where he gained valuable experience. Since then he has been working in the UK and Dubai, and has recently finished an MBA in Architectural Management and Design. He enjoys the design process in both new and refurbishment projects.

Pablo lives in Exeter with his partner and enjoys all kinds of sports, cinema and travelling, but above all running.

Billy Gibson

Architectural Assistant

Born and Bred in Plymouth, Billy graduated from the city’s University in 2016 with an Undergraduate Degree in Architecture. He joined us in the early summer of 2016, and has already gained experience in working on projects of various scales, types and locations. He hopes to move to London to continue his studies, but will almost certainly return to the South-West coastline in search of the open waters again.

Billy loves to play cricket, spend time on the water in his kayak, and is also a keen guitarist and vocalist.

Nikolay Shahpazov AA Diploma ARB

Nikolay studied architecture at the Architectural Association in London. He graduated in 2007, having won the Alex Stanhope Forbes Prize. Over the last 10 years he has gained valuable knowledge and experience working on residential, mixed-use, arts, visitor attractions and listed building projects.

Two years ago, Nikolay relocated from London with his family. He lives on Dartmoor, where he spends some of his spare time making furniture.

Chris Milnes BA Hons

He has worked in architecture extensively, gaining experience on a range of projects including schools and listed buildings during his studies. He is currently undertaking his Part II through the RIBA office based examination, supported and mentored by Gillespie Yunnie Architects.

Chris lives in Plymouth with his partner, and enjoys traveling, and taking his kayak out onto the water when the weather is right.
