This exciting development comprises the repair and residential conversion of four ward blocks within a Grade II* Listed former naval hospital. Arranged around a central quadrangle, the new apartments provide spacious, contemporary living accommodation within walking distance of the city centre and water front. New insertions are clean, minimal and open plan taking advantage of the high existing ceilings and enormous windows.

The planning process for this sensitive historic site involved detailed and extensive dialogue with both Plymouth City Council and English Heritage. The design of a fifth building to replace a ward block destroyed by bombing during the Second World War has also been granted consent and represents a contemporary interpretation of the original. Clad in zinc tiles it provides concealed balcony spaces to the full length of the building and expansive glazed facades to the apartments behind. The David Mackay-led Design Review Panel praised this sensitive yet contemporary approach.
